FEWA received a Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) Award at the 30th Annual Esri International User Conference (Esri UC) in San Diego, California. They received this honor for their vision, leadership, hard work, and innovative use of Esri's geographic information system (GIS) technology. FEWA was selected from more than 300,000 organizations worldwide.
Ali Hassan Al Mazmi, Director of Information Technology and Acting Director of System Control center received the award on behalf of GIS Dept and FEWA while attending the ESRI UC in San Diego, California.
FEWA has embarked on a strategic mission to enhance its valuable utility services under its purview by adopting GIS technology to cater to the growing demands in the utility sector. The GIS Center will help ease out the various bottlenecks faced currently by FEWA during their normal maintenance and reconnaissance operations as well as other emergency operations.
The final product will be an integrated geographic information system (GIS) that will serve as a strong support tool for FEWA's day-to-day operations. The GIS system will help in enhancing the current technical maintenance and management of FEWA's electrical and water assets and help in optimizing resources in terms of time, personnel, and support material during its activities. This will be directly reflected in an efficient service for FEWA's users as well as for all those public and private institutions that may have information links with FEWA in the future.
"We created the Special Achievement in GIS Award to recognize our users' extraordinary contributions to global society," says Esri president Jack Dangermond. "Each year, I look forward to being part of this ceremony; it's a tradition that has gained great meaning and importance for professionals in the GIS industry."
Organizations being honored at the ESRI UC, the world's largest GIS event, span countries and industries including agriculture, cartography, climate change, defense and intelligence, economic development, education, government, health and human services, telecommunications, and utilities .
